The Platonic View of the World Why go back to the Platonic view of the world? Haven't we evolved past that? In essence, I think the Platonic view of the world is based on a three dimensional representation of our world. Yes, we can take this back all the way to DNA and the way we view life now, but to get the large picture, this model appears to be adequate. This model uses shapes instead of periodic elements to define the chemistry of life. Now, this view is being confirmed by modern scientists: Geometry of Space. And as I mentioned in other sections of this site, anything can be a doorway towards a higher understanding of life. Meditating on these symbols can open doorways in our understanding of the inter-relatedness of all that is. In addition, if you want to see why these solids are representative of the universe, visit some of my links for Sacred Geometry and Buckminster Fuller to investigate for yourself. The Basic Building Block of Life: The Tetrahedron
The tetrahedron represents the element of Fire, in the Platonic view. This can also correspond in physics to the state of matter called plasma. It is from this shape that all other shapes are derived. It is the fundamental shape which exhibits balance and structural integrity in space. The Octahedron
The octahedron represents the element of Water, in the Platonic view. This can also correspond in physics to the state of matter called liquid. The Cube
The octahedron represents the element of Earth, in the Platonic view. This can also correspond in physics to the state of matter called solid. The Icosahedron
The octahedron represents the element of Spirit, in the Platonic view. This can also correspond in physics to the state of matter called spacetime. The Dodecahedron
The octahedron represents the element of Air, in the Platonic view. This can also correspond in physics to the state of matter called gaseous. The Four Directions of Space
The four directions on a compass are North, South, East and West. As we see in the diagram above, Fire opposes water, and Air opposes Earth. There are a variety of traditions that show Earth appearing to the South. Actually in some Egyptian traditions, Fire is South, Water is North, Air is East and Earth is West. More To Come!
